About Migraines

Migraines are a neurological disease that can cause a wide range of symptoms. The most commonly thought of symptom is a headache. According to the National Headache Foundation, over 29 million Americans suffer from migraine headaches. In the U.S., 18% of women and 6% of men report having had at least one migraine episode in the previous year. Women experience migraines at least three times more often than men do, and this may be due to hormonal influences. While migraines occur in childhood, they generally strike in the twenties or thirties. Learn more about migraine headaches.

About Migraine Surgery

The surgical procedure can vary depending on the patient’s trigger sites, and only the identified trigger sites (up to 4, but usually 2-3) are surgically addressed. The goal of the procedure is to eliminate triggering stimuli (muscle impingement or airway turbulence and vibration). Patients must have been seen by a neurologist and have a diagnosis of migraine disease or neuralgia to be evaluated. Depending on the character and location of the disease and radiological findings, we will determine which of the four currently known trigger sites will be evaluated.
